Visa and Immigration

No Visa required for European Students

If you are a national of a European Economic Area country (European Union country (EU) or Switzerland), you do not need a student VISA to study or complete an internship in France. You may freely enter French territory regardless of the length of your stay or the course you opt for.

However, you will need to have a medical and maternity insurance and sufficient financial resources to meet your needs and those of any family members you may be supporting.

Applying for a VISA?

International students from outside the European Union, need a long-stay student VISA (VLS-TS) if they wish to pursue their studies in France.

Health Insurance (CPAM)

By law, all students coming to study in France for 3 months or more are required to register for the French Student Health insurance. This registration must be done on https://etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr

Exceptions

  • European Citizens: You will need to provide an European Health Insurance Card
  • Students from Québec: You will need to provide a signed and stamped SE-401-Q-106 form
  • Students coming for less than 3 months: You will need to provide proof of a private health insurance coverage upon your arrival, for admission in class and to process your Student ID card

Student Residences and Hostels

There are several advantages to housing complexes designed specifically for students or young people that include lower rents, furnished rooms, and a built-in social life-all extremely important for young people.

The International Student Residence of Paris

Located in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris (CIUP) is a sprawling collection of university residences that house nearly 6,000 students, scholars, scientists, artists, and athletes from all over the world. Room rents vary depending on the amenities provided, the occupant’s age, and the duration of stay.


To live at CIUP, one must be enrolled at an institution in the Paris region and be studying a master’s degree or above. Learn more at the CIUP website under the tab Faire une demande de logement (apply for housing).

Temporary Resident Permit

The Autorisation provisoire de séjour (APS)

Foreign non-European students who recently graduated from European School of Business who wish to work in France after their higher education can apply for APS (temporary authorization to stay).

A temporary residence permit allows young graduate to stay in France for 12 months(non-renewable) after obtaining a degree. Depending on their country of origin, they will have different processes to follow; find all related information here:
